Before you can install Google Analytics on your website, you will need to create a free Google Analytics account as shown in the above video.
Then you need to create an Analytics property. As explained in the video, I recommend you create both a Universal Analytics property and a Google Analytics 4 (GA4) property.
GA4 is the latest release of Google Analytics and has been available since late 2020. GA4 offers a number of new features and is particularly useful for people who want to track user behaviour across both a website and a smartphone app.
However, there are some functionalities which are not fully supported in GA4 as yet. Plus, because it's very new, there aren't that many online resources available yet to help you learn how to use GA4. On the other hand, Universal Analytics has been around for years and so there are lots of guides and training materials available for it.
That's why I recommend you take advantage of the dual tracking option and run both Universal Analytics and GA4 at the same time. That way, you'll get the best of both worlds.
